If you’re renewing your SIA Security Guard Licence, you must complete the updated SIA Security Guard Refresher Course, previously known as the Top Up Training.
As of October 2024, this one-day course now includes updated content on security searches, protecting vulnerable people, and dealing with terror threats.
Who Needs to Complete the Security Guard Refresher Course?
If your SIA Security Guard licence is expiring, this course is specifically for you. The updated version replaces the old SIA Top Up Training and introduces new updates to meet current security standards.
Do I Need a First Aid Certificate for the Updated SIA Security Guard Top Up Training?
The first aid requirements for the SIA Refresher Course for Security Guards remain the same. If you already hold a first aid certificate, make sure it’s valid for at least 12 months from your course date.
If you don’t have one, you can select an SIA Refresher course package that includes first aid training—And you need to arrange it separately.
Am I Eligible for the SIA Refresher Course?
You must be at least 18 and have completed the full SIA Security Guard training course or the older SIA Top-Up course within the past three years.
A valid first aid certificate is required—if yours has expired, select a course package that includes first aid training.
Mandatory distance learning must also be completed before your in-person course. Details will be sent in your confirmation email.
How Many Exams Are There in the New SIA Top Up Training for Security Guards?
As part of the updated course, you’ll need to complete a searching practical, which will be assessed by your trainer in class.
Additionally, you’ll take a 28-question multiple-choice exam on Principles of Working as a Security Officer in the Private Security (Refresher).
You’ll have 45 minutes to complete the test, with a minimum passing score of 71% (20 correct answers).
