The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) training program is recognised worldwide and created by top industry experts. These courses are designed for operators, service technicians, delivery drivers, managers, supervisors, demonstrators, installers, and instructors. IPAF training helps keep your employees safe and ensures you meet legal requirements. Most IPAF’s courses include both theory (which can be done online or in a classroom) and practical training.

General FAQ's

A PAL Card is a Powered Access Licence that lets you operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), Mast Climbing Work Platforms (MCWPs), or Construction Hoists (CHs).

IPAF offers courses for different types of equipment, including static vertical lifts, static boom lifts, mobile vertical lifts, mobile boom lifts, push-around vertical lifts, insulated aerial devices, and mast climbing work platforms.

IPAF courses generally last between one and two days, depending on the type of equipment and the course level.

Upon successful completion, you will receive a PAL (Powered Access Licence) Card, which proves you are trained to operate specific types of equipment.

Some IPAF courses are designed for beginners, while others are for experienced operators. Check the course requirements to see if prior experience is needed.

Some theory parts of IPAF courses can be completed online as eLearning. Practical training and testing will still need to be done in person.

You need to take a refresher course before your current PAL Card expires. This helps ensure you remain up-to-date with safety practices and regulations.

You must typically bring personal protective equipment (PPE), such as a hard hat, safety boots, and gloves.

If you need a PAL Card with the CSCS logo, pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environmental touch screen test within the last two years. Then, contact your IPAF training centre for details on adding the CSCS logo to your PAL Card.
